The image to the right is the main arch, with full practical effects, on the Waterfall City set built at Pinewood Studios.(Click for larger image) This arch was 65' tall. Click on the images below to see more stills from DINOTOPIA, including more of Waterfall City, the largest set ever built on the backlot at Pinewood Studios. The image at the top of this page is Walter's oil sketch of Waterfall City. This, along with a plan and detailed working drawings is what Framestore used to build the CG set. The portion that was built on the backlot was about 10% of the overall design of the city.

THE SPECIALIST / Warner Bros.
Visually, The Specialist was about the contrast between the slick, colorful world of South Beach on Miami Beach (see image below) and the earthy, gritty world along the canals and waterways of Miami itself. The image to the right was a set built on location serving as the inn where the Sharon Stone character lived. The warehouse below right, is the set that was built on location that served as the home for the Sylvester Stallone character. This warehouse measuring over 200' long and two stories high was built to be completely destroyed at the end of the movie by a massive explosion.

DEMOLITION MAN / Warner Bros.
Demolition Man was the first film that Walter ever actually functioned as the Production Designer. At the request of Producer Joel Silver and Director Marco Brambilla he assumed the role of Production Designer at the start of principle photography. Though his final credit appeared as Art Director, having the opportunity to design a film of this scale gave him an amazing experience. It was on this film that his relationship with Director Marco Brambilla (Dinotopia) was developed. It was also the first of two Sylvester Stallone movies that Walter did. A great deal of credit for the look of this film goes to Illustrator Chris Ross who designed all of the technical hardware. The image to the right is a view of the main set in the film, the Cryo Prison.

THEODORE REX In Theodore Rex, Whoopie Goldberg stars as a cop who walks a beat in "Prehistoric Place", a neighborhood inhabited by genetically mutated dinosaurs. The image to the right is Walter's original conceptual elevation of this street. The image below is the lower floors of one part of the street set. The image below center contains various set shots including the local dinosaur hang out and the mad scientists office. The image lower right is the interior of the main characters apartment. The overall visual concept was that of the dark side of a children's picture book.
